Short Sale definition:


A Short Sale, is principally done, when you can no longer afford to stay in your home and need to sell it, but as the current market value has substantially dropped, you can no longer sell it for what you paid, and you will be unable to sell an amount sufficient to pay off what you owe on the mortgage.

With a Short Sale you are asking the bank to accept a sale price lower than what you currently owe and to accept that sale price as payment in full for what your indebtedness to the mortgage holder.
